My real estate partner Jolynn and I had a listing in Keller, Texas. An agent called and scheduled a showing on this listing. Our homeowner left when the agent arrived. He noticed that this agent did not have a client with him. He decided to move his car and watch his house from across the street. The agent stayed in the house about 10 minutes and left.
The next day the homeowner calls Jolynn and informs her that he had just filled a new prescription on some medication the day before and when he went to take it that evening the bottle was almost empty. The homeowner was convinced this agent who came without the client had stolen his medication.
Jolynn calls me and tells me what is going on. So I decide to call the agent. I call and ask for feedback. He says: Yes that his clients loved the home but decided the floor plan just didn’t work for them (even though no clients had appeared). I got off the phone and called my broker and told her what was going on. I informed her that this agent had not been honest and was suspected of theft. She said she wasn’t sure there was anything she or we could do except advise the homeowner to call the police.
The next thing we know that same agent calls and schedules an appointment to show another listing we had in Keller, Texas. This house just happens to be owned by a Doctor. Jolynn calls the Doctor and he agrees to set up a sting operation on this agent. He gets a bottle of medication and leaves it in his bathroom.
The agent arrives at the Doctor’s house. He goes into the house again without a client and stays in about 10 minutes and leaves.
The Doctor (who also sat in his car across the street) goes in and checks the medication. Sure enough most of it is gone. He calls the police. The police find the agent in the neighborhood and arrest him. The police also find numerous prescription medications on him but not the medication from the Doctors house. The police take him off to the police station to pump his stomach and do a cavity search (to try to find the Doctor’s medication). This agent is now awaiting trial.
Conclusion: Don’t mess with our sellers!
